Join the Mineral Makeup Movement

Foundation, eye shadow, blush and concealer… The latest trend in the world of cosmetics is mineral makeup and it’s gaining in popularity.

Made from finely ground and crushed minerals that are processed to achieve the desired colours and textures, mineral makeup proposes a pure formula that is generally free of common skin irritants such as perfume, talc, preservatives or oil, which makes it ideal for most skin types, even delicate skin. But keep in mind that there is no such thing as completely without risk of irritation, so if you have sensitive skin you should perform a skin test first, try behind your ear.

Among the minerals most often used to make mineral makeup is mica for its luminous pigments, silica for its absorbent quality and soft, silky texture or iron oxide for its richly coloured pigments. However, not all mineral cosmetics contain the same proportion of pure mineral pigments; some are 100% mineral while others are made from mineral powder.

Mineral cosmetics are the ultimate in softness and lightness and feel like a very comfortable and natural second skin. Another plus is that the formula is non-comedogenic and won’t clog pores, which means that skin can breathe. Mineral makeup provides a soft, gentle coverage and thanks to the very fine, light reflecting mineral particles it contains, the result is a luminous and natural-looking complexion. Furthermore, mineral makeup lasts a long, long time and is ideal to cover minor skin imperfections. Although it can’t replace sunscreen, some mineral powders contain natural sun filters such as zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, which protect skin from harmful UV rays.

Application Technique

Mineral makeup is easy to use and perfect for women who enjoy quick, no-fuss application. Start by applying your usual facial moisturizer, making sure it is well absorbed to avoid creating spots. Gently tap brush to remove any excess powder then lightly sweep brush over your face using circular motions without pressing brush bristles against skin. Start with the T-zone (forehead, nose and chin) and move outwards until desired coverage is obtained. Focus on areas that need a little more coverage. And voilĂ ! A perfectly radiant complexion.

Makeup trick: For a healthy and natural-looking complexion, buff a light veil of mineral powder, one shade darker than your natural skin colour, over your forehead, bridge of your nose, chin and cheekbones.

Tip: Don’t forget to clean and wash your makeup brush at least once a week. Use a mild shampoo to avoid spreading bacteria. Sponge off excess water and let brush air dry.
