I’m very excited to start training camp at Cypress Mountain in Vancouver, BC since it will be my first time on the Olympic site. I’m set to train there until January 16. This is one of the advantages of being the host country: the Canadian team gets to practice on-site!
I’m really looking forward to trying the course which will be built as close as possible to the one that I’ll be competing on at the Olympics. And I can’t wait to see the weather since it can go from rain to snow to sun in an instant so those conditions will be one of the most important things to get used to.
While training camp at the Olympic site we will be getting used to skiing at night since the Olympic competition will be held at this time. It is a bit strange having the opportunity to sleep in and to only start training at 3pm! After our training camp here in Vancouver we will continue to travel and compete around the globe on the World Cup Circuit. It will be an extremely busy time. It’s a real test of our endurance since there are so many competitions. That’s why I took some time off when I had the chance… just a couple of days in Victoria, BC to unwind before starting the big push which goes on until the end of the season.
I still trained at the gym everyday but as you can see from my photos, I found some time to surf, one of my all-time favourite sports. It’s so beautiful there, I’ve never seen anything quite like it: the path that leads to the ocean is surrounded by old growth forest. The trees are so huge and breathtaking.. Its wonderful to have such breathtaking scenery in our country and I am proud that we have worked hard to preserve it.
I’ll be in touch in the next coming weeks, right before my next competition at Mont Gabriel, QC on January 24.
